'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the dramatic dying seconds of his team's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The game ended with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses following the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative strike from outside the box, and Cameron Burgess quickly hammered in the loose ball before charging toward the East Stand to revel in the moment, with supporters congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory sealed an incredible comeback given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. Amid the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win secured a fourth-round game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that range," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right flank after they changed formation. That meant facing off against City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the opposition who complimented the way the underdogs approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are exceptional but even the simple things and simple things, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they always find their target and they know how to manage and take the sting out of a game. You can think you're holding your own and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and focus just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at his former club and has swiftly replicated that in Wales. At the London club he reunited with Richie Wellens, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at his loan club from United. Then came a spell at lower division Salford, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was likely a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is very different. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without much intensity. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing men's games you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

He has shown that maturation for his team and nation, performing well for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the global tournament next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including two matches fixtures against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

It has been a remarkable path for the kid from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who used to see his dad, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

His single match for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they played on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was closed owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, grinning. "The preceding week, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I understood I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I felt I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

New Environment

It is mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the 24-year-old was a frequent passenger in Swansea's nicknamed fun bus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the drivers, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"It's myself a teammate, Ronald, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has got his license. It's enjoyable to spend time with the lads but I'm planning to be the following person out of the minibus and driving. Franco likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on the Tube after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
