Wimbledon Adopts Video Challenge Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon tennis court with replay system

Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in implementing replay technology.

Video review systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.

Players will gain the right to contest certain decisions from the official, mirroring the system currently in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.

This technology will be accessible on the main stadium and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles matches.

This step arrives only a year after the All England Club implemented ELC, which terminated the 147-year role of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to re-examine other situations, including:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • If a ball made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance end of a rally.

Importantly, there is no cap on the number of challenges a competitor can request.

Case in Point

A recent example occurred in a recent tournament recently, where a top player used the video challenge against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and determined the player was responsible for interference, awarding the rally to Medvedev.

Wider Implementation

This technology aren't exclusive to Grand Slams. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at all of its events.

Additional Innovations

A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This addresses situations where fans have sometimes been unsure whether a shot was out or in.

Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
